A professional community
Being a teacher or kindergarten class leader at an international school og an international department requires a special level of professionalism and a number of special conditions.
Frie Skolers Lærerforening is the only professional organization that exclusively organizes members at the independent schools and therefore the international schools.
This means that you join a strong professional community, which is linked to the special characteristics of your working life.
This applies locally at your own school, and in the professional and political work of the association.
As a member, you can contribute to the community and influence the association’s work both at your own school, and through the International Committee as well as the board of representatives and main board.
Always available knowledge about the rules for your working life
On the association’s website, as a member you get access to the Advice and guidance section.
The content requires a member login, as this is where the association’s consultants convey their knowledge about the rules for, among other things, pay, working hours, maternity, vacation and absence.
Free advice and guidance for stress, sick leave and occupational injury
Unfortunately, it happens that you can beat yourself up mentally or physically at work.

As a member, you can always get help and advice from the union representative, and in addition, the union representative works for collective improvements in the workplace through local agreements.
Your working environment representative focuses on actively working with the working environment at your workplace and that it is continuously improved.
Frie Skolers Lærerforening trains the trustees so that they are well prepared for the tasks that come with the trusteeship.
A political mouthpiece
- Who will shout when the politicians consider abolishing the 10th grade?
- Who is going to point out that the salary for teachers and kindergarten class leaders on independent schools is, on average, many thousands of kroner after the salary in public primary schools?
- Who should keep an eye on whether the independent schools live up to the requirements of the working time agreement?
Through daily contact with a large number of members at independent schools throughout the country, the Frie Skolers Lærerforening has a unique insight into the general problems facing teachers and kindergarten class leaders.
And Frie Skolers Lærerforening is therefore not satisfied with solving the individual member’s problem. We also raise general problems to a higher level. We seek joint solutions with the relevant parties, and we communicate about the issues to both the teachers and other stakeholders in the field.
20 experts at your disposal
Among other things, 20 consultants work at Frie Skolers Lærerforening’s secretariat in Risskov near Aarhus, who deal with more than 20,000 member inquiries a year.
The consultants know the rules inside out, they have deep knowledge of the conditions at the independent schools and the consultants therefore know how to handle your inquiry in the best way.
As a member of Frie Skolers Lærerforening, you are therefore never alone with your questions.
