The right to pay during parental leave depends on whether one or both parents are covered by the Danish state’s parental leave agreement (Statens Barselsaftale).
If both parents are employed by the Danish state, you must share six weeks of leave with the right to pay:
Example
Both mother and father are employed at the school, and they have decided that the father will transfer nine weeks of leave to the mother. Therefore, she has 24 + 9 = 33 weeks of leave, and the father has 15 weeks of leave.
The weeks to be shared: They choose to share the weeks equally, with 3 weeks each, so that the father receives pay during all of his weeks of leave.
Result:
If you wish to take a longer leave, you should always contact the Frie Skolers Lærerforening secretariat for advice.
If the other parent is employed in the private sector, unemployed or employed in a municipality/region, they you do not share the weeks with the right to pay as illustrated in the example above.
This applies regardless of whether the other parent receives full pay during their leave.
Example
Father is employed by Example City Independent School and mother is employed in the private sector.
