Duty of loyalty

s a teacher at an independent school, you are obliged to show loyalty to the school’s objectives and values. In addition, you are subject to the rules on confidentiality, which may require you to breach your confidentiality with a student.

The duty of loyalty

Your employer is entitled to require your loyalty to the school, its management, objectives and values. In the school’s day-to-day operations, the school administrator/principal typically decides how objectives and values are to be implemented at the school.

In connection with your hiring, you should have been informed, if applicable, about the school’s religious, political or pedagogical basis to ensure a clear understanding between you and the school about the values on which the school is built.
